Jaar 3

Stage

Period H and I are offered both in English and in Dutch

This period, which runs for 10 weeks, you will be working on a Service Design project. The objective in this project is to identify needs and opportunities for innovation in business of public services. The approach is to learn about the methods of Service Design and collaborate in a team of students in an interdisciplinary setting.

In this period, three courses flank this project, including Sustainable Design. The main goal of this course is to create awareness for the role of interaction design concerning environmental and social issues. In the course Information Visualisation 2, the focus is on the visualisation of complex data and ideas using time-based or interactive media. The course Design Methods invites practitioners into the classroom to talk about and discuss methods for managing design projects as well as design processes.

Period I - Design, Media, Culture & Innovation

Project I is a 'free' design project. This means you are free to suggest a subject - a design challenge - to your tutors and propose a plan to develop your design for it. Then you have 10 weeks to create the design concept and prototype. Through this project you will demonstrate your capabilities as a designer, both in the methods you deploy in the design process and in the resulting design and prototype.

Two courses run alongside this project: Trends & Forecasting is about just what its title says and about how we, designers, are expected to play a major role in how the world will keep on changing - for the better. In the course Intercultural Innovation, we will discuss and elaborate the notion that design does not obey the borders set by nations. The language of design crosses borders, but it also is culture-bound in many ways.
